This is taken from the edge of Trafalgar Square in Central London on a very hot day last year. The plinth to the left is housing a ship in a bottle as part of an art exhibition held in the square and I thought it’d make an interesting addition to the permanent structure in the Square, Lord Nelson’s Column.

This place is always a magnet for tourists and today was no exception. But for Londoners like me I see it as the place to pick up a night bus if ever I was out in the early hours! All London’s night buses terminate and start here.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

I feel the title is quite fitting with this image, as the telescope is placed on one of the highest peaks in the South East of England, which offers a sweeping view over the County of Buckinghamshire. This is taken Whipsnade Zoo’s picnic area.

Anyone who follows my blog will know how much I like skies, so this fits the bill.

I’ll be honest with you. Of all the fantastic places I visited in the Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise was the biggest disappointment. Before my wife and I travelled to Canada it was one of the many stops on our tour I was really excited to see. It may have been the flat, damp, dull weather on the day, the hoards of tourists, or my mood at the time, who knows? Maybe I had just seen so many amazing places in the Rockies up until that point, it was difficult for anywhere to give me that wow factor you occasionally get when you first lay eyes on it.

Whatever it was, I think it reflects in the few pictures I took of the place!! This really is the best of a bad bunch too! The sky is flat and yes it’s not as pin sharp as it could be, but C’est La Vie. I do quite like the composition though!

I think this may happen to all photographers at some point. You build up a place in your mind and can’t wait to get there to shoot, but when you get there it just doesn’t live up to expectations for whatever reason. Shame.

Next time I visit The Canadian Rockies I may feel differently about Lake Louise and take some amazing images. I hope so!

This wreck of a boat caught my eye and I shot it from several angles, but decided this was the version to process.

And now for something completely different…. This is a shot of a couple (Jodie and Steve) during a recent engagement session I shot last week on Croyde Beach, here in North Devon.

They were a great couple to shoot and were really up for the photo shoot which made it a lot of fun. I am shooting their wedding in July and I can’t wait. One of the best things about doing these pre wedding shoots are that you get to know each other and see how the couple act in front of the camera, so on the day the couple are a lot more relaxed, making for better photos.

I used my flash off camera and in a large softbox held by an assistant, which gives lovely dynamic, directional lighting, which makes for much better lighting than putting the flash in the camera hotshoe and on axis.

If you want to see more images from this session click here.

The structure in between the trees is the Dumo Santa Maria Annunziata, subject of my previous post. It was a glorious morning and I didn’t meet a soul for ages until I saw a man walking his dog!

Keeping with my recent postings of London, I continue today with a shot taken from one of the big London tourist hotspots, Trafalgar Square.

If you visit the square at anytime of day, there will always be a huge gathering of people and the day I took this was no exception. If you look closely (in the bottom right) you can see the London 2012 Olympics clock counting down to the opening day.

As I no longer live in London I haven’t been caught up in ‘Olympic Fever’ but did notice the change to the city when I visited last month. The public transport system has been restructured to try and improve travelling around the busy city at Olympic time with the introduction of a new monorail system which stretches from West to East London. As a result there are a few brand new stations built in Central London. One of them being Tottenham Court Road Station, which sadly resulted in the demolition of my favourite old music venue, The Astoria, to make way for it’s construction.
