This was shot last week on Westward Ho! my local beach here in North Devon. We are lucky here to get nice sunsets and when the tide is out there are some great shots to be captured.
I know the sun is blown out a bit but it is the sun!
Post Processing:
- 3 Raws in Photomatix carefully de-ghosting some of the birds in movement
- Brilliance Warmth filter in Color Efex Pro to heighten theĀ gorgeous sunlight
- I added a duplicate layer and tried to calm down the blown out sun as best I can with highlight recovery and desaturating
- DeNoised and High Pass sharpened
Wonderful sunset, I love the reflection of the sun and the texture of the sand!
Beautiful sunset Marc. Really like those rocks as foreground interest.
Stunning shot, Marc. That’s one beautiful sunset and the reflections make this a work of art.
Wow, beautiful photo!

What a fantastic plac to shoot!!! Well captured and processed!
Beautiful Marc. The composition is just terrific. I picked up a trick with the sun a couple of weeks ago that seems to work. Shoot 7 shots and you are then able to mask it in PS
Great composition and result. Shooting direclty into the sun is alwasy tricky, and it sounds like you really did your homework on clalming it down. Nice work!
that’s awesome Marc!
Amazing details and composition to this picture. Ha ha, love the comment regarding the sun, it’s amazing how unfavourably people can pick on blown out areas such as the sun.
